Shrewsbury Looking to Add Depth

The arrival of the two new players will add depth to Sam Ricketts’ squad and provide competition for places. The Shrews are yet to win this season, drawing three games and losing once.

As a result, the new additions will be hoping to push Salop up the league, beginning with a trip to Doncaster Rovers on Saturday.

New Additions

19-year-old Žambůrek, who is a Czech Republic youth player, began his career with Slavia Prague before joining Brentford in 2018.

The midfielder has made 22 appearances for the Bees but manager Thomas Frank believes a move away will help his career.

As for Millar, he joins Salop from A-League side Newcastle Jets. Although it is a short term deal, Shrewsbury have the option to buy the 24-year-old.

Shrewsbury may have only conceded four goals from four games, but the defender has been brought in to sure up the backline.

What Was Said

Speaking to the clubs’ official website, Ricketts said: “Matt is someone who came to our attention in the very early stages of lockdown. We have done a lot of research into him. We haven’t been able to watch him live but we have seen lots of videos. We have also spoken to a number of players who Matt has played with – as well as references from coaching staff.

“He is a player who has done well and developed in quickly Australia. He’s risen through the leagues in Australia very quickly. He’s very keen to play for Shrewsbury so we are delighted to have him in.”
