Manchester United’s pursuit of Ousmane Dembele on transfer deadline day looks unlikely after failing to agree on terms with Barcelona.

ESPN reporter Rob Dawson confirmed reports that the deal for Dembele is off after Barcelona failed to agree to a straight loan deal.

Ousmane Dembele Wants Permanent Move

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side were at crossroads with Barca with United wanting to sign the France international on loan but it is thought both the player and his parent club would much rather prefer a permanent move.

The 23-year old cost Barcelona up to £135.5 million when he signed from Borrusia Dortmund three years ago.

Regular injuries and a loss of form have seen his impact at the Camp Nou ineffective and which is why United was not willing to make a move for the winger permanently. This, however, impacts former Manchester United forward Memphis Depay’s impending move to Camp Nou.

Memphis Depay in Question

Lyon’s sporting director Juninho confirmed that the Netherlands international had agreed on a contract with Ronald Koeman’s side.

“He has reached an agreement with Barcelona, we don’t hide that at all,” Juninho said.

“Maybe he’ll go Barca (on Monday) but nothing is certain.”

Depay scored 15 goals last season in 22 games during an injury-hit season but with Dembele’s near future set to keep him in Spain, the 26-year old is set to stay in France for the time being.

Alternatives for United

United could revert their attention to Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman after deals for top target Jadon Sancho and Ousmane Dembele fell through.

A loan offer for the French winger has been floated, according to The Telegraph’s James Ducker, after Bayern Munich moved to re-sign Douglas Costa from Juventus.

Time is clearly running out for Manchester United to find a solution for their right winger problem, with the window closing at 11pm tonight.
