Zlatan Ibrahimović Positive COVID-19

AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimović has tested positive for COVID-19, the club has confirmed.

The ex-Swedish international will now be placed in isolation at his home whilst he recovers from the virus. The player has also confirmed that he has no symptoms.

Club Statement

The full statement by the club read: “Zlatan Ibrahimović has tested positive for COVID-19 following a second round of swab tests ahead of tonight’s game against Bodø/Glimt. The club has informed the relevant authorities and the player has been promptly placed in quarantine at home. All other team members and staff have tested negative.”

Leo Duarte’s Positive Test

On Wednesday, it was announced that Leo Duarte had also begun isolating after testing positive. This positive test meant the entire team had to be re-tested, with this re-test showing up as positive for Ibrahimovic.

After Duarte’s positive test, the club said: “Defender Leo Duarte has tested positive for COVID-19 after undergoing a swab test yesterday and has been placed in self-isolation.

“Other team members and staff have all tested negative.

“In accordance with current protocols, the whole group will be tested again ahead of tomorrow’s match against Bodø/Glimt and will follow the preventative measures recommended by local public health authorities.”

Milan have now announced their squad for tonight’s game, with both Duarte and Ibrahimović withdrawing from the squad.

Impressive Start to the Season

It had been a good start to the season up to this point for the ex-Manchester United striker, who signed a new one year contact with AC Milan last month.

In the two games he has played in so far this season, he has scored three goals. This includes a brace against Bologna on the opening day of the Serie A season on Monday.

He also scored in the previous Europa League Qualifying Round as Milan would beat Shamrock Rovers 2-0.
