Luke Shaw: ‘We Need More Players’

Luke Shaw appears to have sent a warning to the Manchester United board, with the left-back claiming the club need to sign more players in order to make a success of their season.

The current transfer window runs until 5 October, but Dutch midfielder Donny van de Beek is the only addition the Manchester club have made so far.

Left-Back Warns That Other Clubs Have Continued to Strengthen

Clamour had been rife among Manchester United fans even before a ball was kicked this season. Following the club’s embarrassing opening day defeat by Crystal Palace, animosity towards the board’s perceived transfer inactivity has only risen.

And now it appears that the players are voicing their concerns over the lack of additions to the first team so far this window.

Defender Luke Shaw told TV2: “I think we need more players to strengthen the squad. It can give us a boost. When you look around at how other teams are strengthening their teams, then we must also do it to keep up with the others.”

“Everything Went Wrong” in Pre-Season Says Luke Shaw

The 25-year-old was caught ball-watching in the lead up to Andros Townsend‘s opening goal at Old Trafford, but feels that problems had been growing before the club got their season underway.

“Possibly everything went wrong,” detailed the former Southampton defender in comments carried by Manchester Evening News. “Personally, from my point of view, the pre-season that we had altogether is not the correct way it should have been. We’ve [only] had a week all together.

“Look at teams who have been together a while, training, playing games. I think Palace have played quite a few more games than us and it showed. We lacked that fitness and confidence.”

“We haven’t been able to prepare in the way that we wanted and that’s not an excuse because we have the quality of players to be able to win games like this but we weren’t up to it tonight and we’ve been punished. It’s the start of a new season, we should have been fresh.”

Manchester United are back in action on Tuesday (22 September). Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s side face Luton in the League Cup at Kenilworth Road.
