Who is Leeds United’s Reported Target Crysencio Summerville?

Summerville

Leeds United are the talk of the town. The Peacocks announced their Premier League arrival with a bang. The Bielsa coached side gave Liverpool a run for their money before losing out to the Reds. But, the team still looks lacking in a lot of areas despite the impressive performance at Anfield. Just a quick look reveals poor squad depth and lack of quality in certain areas of the Leeds side.

Leeds have been quietly doing their transfer business so far. Apart from spending big-money for Rodrigo and Koch, the Peacocks have added some talented youngsters to their squad. Feyenoord’s Crysencio Summerville is the latest name that is reportedly close to moving to the Yorkshire club, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Crysencio Summerville: The Next Great Winger from Feyenoord?

Background of Summerville

Born in 2001 in the city of Rotterdam, Crysencio Summerville started his footballing journey at the local side Noorderkwartier before joining the famed Feyenoord Academy. At Varkenoord, the young winger quickly rose through the ranks and was playing for the U19 team by 2018.

Summerville made his professional debut last year in the Dutch second division with FC Dordrecht after moving on loan in late December of 2018. The youngster scored his first goal on his professional debut and went on to finish as Dordrecht’s fourth-highest goalscorer.

Last season saw the talented winger move on loan to ADO Den Haag. Summerville was one of the few bright sparks in a rather forgetful season for ADO. The winger became the youngest ever goalscorer for ADO in the Eredivisie and ended the seasons with two goals and three assists. He then returned to Feyenoord at the end of last season after a fruitful spell with ADO Den Haag.

Summerville has represented the Netherlands at U16, U17, U18, and U19 level. He was also part of the Dutch U17 side that won the European U17 Championship in 2018.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Like many raw Dutch talents, Summerville is a very versatile player. While his favorite position is on the right-wing,  he is capable of playing in any position across the attacking midfield. He is most effective when deployed in the flanks.

Blessed with quick feet and great speed, Summerville has already proven himself to be a nightmare for defenders in one-on-one situations. Along with that, the teenager possesses great dribbling ability and balance. He has also shown impressive aggression and has already proven himself to be a hard worker.

Summerville, though, is still not at his peak physical condition. The teenager is not the biggest and may struggle in the more physical Premier League should he make the move.  If Summerville can continue to develop at this rate, he can become one of the best in the world in his position.

Verdict

Leeds United have proven to be a breeding ground for young talent. Marcelo Bielsa is a well-known manager who improves the players at his disposal rather than spending big in the transfer market. Summerville, having just turned 18, has a bright future ahead of him. Having played in the Eredivisie, he also has the experience of playing in the top tier of a country.

Jack Harrison, who is currently on loan, could also have competition for his place if the Peacocks sign the talented winger. If things go right, Summerville can be Leeds United’s long-term answer for a right-winger.
