Career so Far

Naby, who was born in Marseille, left The Addicks at the end of last season. The Senegalese signed with Huddersfield until the Summer of 2022. Standing at 6 foot 5, the central defender brings a wealth of experience to the Yorkshire side.

Having played in both the Champions League and the Europa League with Lyon and Sporting CP, Naby then moved to England, where he joined Charlton Athletic. After an impressive five years, the 27-year-old makes the move up north.

As a left-sided centre-back, Naby was rated highly by Addicks fans. The 27-year-old will be a good fit for the Terriers, as they struggled with conceding goals in the last couple of seasons. Bringing in another tough, physical central defender to strengthen the squad and team up with the likes of Christopher Schindler was a smart move.

Naby was in demand by lots of teams, as a free transfer with Championship experience are a rare breed. The Frenchman has the added experience of European football and feels comfortable on the ball.

What Was Said?

Speaking about his new signing, Huddersfield boss Carlos Coberan said: “Naby is a player with experience in this country and in this league, as well as experience in the highest levels of football when he was very young.

“He has good physical attributes that fit the demands of Championship football, and at the same time he feels comfortable on the ball.

“We want him to reach his best levels again to help our team, and we will help him to achieve that.”

Naby should get plenty of game time in the Championship with Huddersfield, and his style fits with the identity the Terriers are trying to establish this season. Joining other Summer signings of Danny Ward and Pipa on permanent contracts, he adds more interesting times ahead.
