Crystal Palace are looking to sign Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi on loan, according to Adrian Kajumba of the Daily Mail.

Liam Twomey of The Athletic is also reporting the news that the Belgian is close to a return to Selhurst Park. As part of the move, Batshuayi will sign a new contract at Stamford Bridge.

Returning to Palace

The Belgian international spent the second half of the 2018/19 season on loan at Selhurst Park.

He enjoyed a successful spell, scoring six goals in 13 appearances. The 26-year-old’s goals saw him become Palace’s top goalscoring striker during the campaign; they largely relied on goals from midfield, with Luka Milivojevic top-scoring with 12 in the campaign.

Batshuayi has fallen out of favour at Stamford Bridge, and will only slip further down the pecking order with the arrival of Timo Werner. He made 26 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions; however, most of those came from the substitutes bench.

Since making the move to West London, the Belgian has never established himself as a first-choice striker. He has often been alternated in and out of the starting line-up, or been used as a game-changing striker during the second half of games.

As a result, it appears that he is now being allowed to leave Chelsea. According to reports, a view to a permanent move is also being arranged.

Disrupting Other Transfer Plans?

A move for Batshuayi could disrupt Palace’s other transfer plans.

The South London club had been linked with a loan move for Blues youngster Conor Gallagher, with reports suggesting that a medical had already taken place.

However, Premier League rules state that you are not allowed two loan players from the same club. As a result, it means that Roy Hodgson will have to decide which of the pair he wants.
