Sunderland Sign Striker Danny Graham For a Second Time

Sunderland today confirmed the signing of striker Danny Graham. The 35-year-old has signed a one-year deal and begins his second spell at the club.

Sunderland have today confirmed the signing of experienced striker Danny Graham. The former Swansea City and Blackburn Rovers forward has signed a one-year deal with the Black Cats and was confirmed via the official Sunderland website. Graham was a free agent having left Blackburn at the end of his contract.

This is not the first time Graham has signed for Sunderland. He had an unsuccessful spell with the club when they were in the Premier League several years ago. The player and fans will be hoping this time is more fruitful.

Danny Graham Signs For Sunderland

Unsuccessful First Spell at the Club

When Danny Graham left Sunderland in 2016 he ended a disappointing three and a half years. Not just for him but the club also. Signed in January 2013 for £5 million, Graham would score just one league goal as the Black Cats fought relegation.

Now Graham is back at the Stadium of Light, the 35-year-old striker will be hoping to prove his critics wrong as he attempts to put things right from his dismal first spell on Wearside.

Sunderland manager Phil Parkinson has taken a close look at Graham due to the striker being on trial at the club’s Academy of Light. He will now battle it out with Will Grigg, Charlie Wyke and Aiden O’Brien for the starting place up front.

Danny Graham on Returning to Sunderland

Speaking after re-signing for Sunderland, Danny Graham said:

“It’s been in the pipeline for a number of weeks now, so I’m delighted the deal is done and it feels great to be here. I’m looking forward to the challenge that lies ahead.”

Phil Parkinson on His New Signing

Sunderland boss Phil Parkinson has been looking to add an out and out striker to his squad all summer. He finally got one today in the form of Danny Graham. Parkinson said of his new signing:

“I’m delighted to welcome Danny to the club. He provides us with another option and more competition at the top end of the pitch, and he is another excellent addition to the squad.
