Sergio Ramos Wants Lionel Messi to Stay in La Liga

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has said he wants Lionel Messi to remain in La Liga in the future. His comments follow transfer speculation surrounding Messi’s future at Barcelona.

Speaking to the press ahead of Spain’s Nations League fixtures against Germany tonight, Ramos also admitted that Messi deserves the chance to decide his future.

Ramos: “We would like him to stay”

Ramos admitted that he would like Messi to stay in La Liga in the future. The 34-year old defender believes the Argentinian’s presence in the league is good for competition.

Speaking to Sky Sports yesterday, when asked about Messi’s situation with Barcelona, Ramos said: “With regards to Messi, I think it’s not an issue that concerns us. He has earned the right to decide his future.

“I don’t know if he’s doing it in the best way. But of course for Spanish football, for Barcelona and for us who like to win while being the best. We would like him to stay here.

“Leo makes the Spanish league, his team and the Clasicos better. You always like beating the best and he’s one of the best in the world.”

Ramos has spent 15 years playing for Real Madrid. He holds the record for most appearances in El Classico fixtures (43).

Messi Situation

Ramos’ quotes come after weeks of speculation from Messi and Barcelona over his future at the club. The 33-year old failed to attend for Barcelona training on Monday and informed the Catalan club last week that he wants to leave.

Messi’s father and agent Jorge Messi, met with Barcelona bosses yesterday, including club president Josep Maria Bartomeu, to discuss the forward’s contract situation.

Messi has represented Barcelona for 20 years and made over 700 appearances for Barca. He scored 634 goals and made nearly 300 assists during his time at the Camp Nou.
