Hertha Berlin: Three Key Players for the 2020/21 Season

Hertha Berlin

The 2020/21 Bundesliga is on the horizon and Hertha Berlin will be in search of a better finish than the previous campaign yielded. A tenth place finish saw the club from the German capital miss out on European football once more.

After making a few key signings last season, Hertha Berlin are going to be turning to those players to help get them back into the top spots in the Bundesliga. Here are three key players for Hertha for the upcoming season.

Hertha Berlin’s Three Key Players for the 2020/21 Season

Matheus Cunha

The Brazilian U23 player arrived at Hertha during the January transfer window from RB Leipzig. He was able to find better form upon his arrival to Hertha as he scored five goals and added two assists in 11 appearances.

Cunha did miss some time playing with Hertha last season due to the Olympic qualifying competition for the South American region. The 21-year-old went on to be the top scorer in the qualifying tournament to help lead Brazil to qualification for the Olympic Games.

This season Cunha has the opportunity to further impress his new club. He was one of the best players for Hertha after the halfway mark of the 2019/20 season and should be heavily involved in Bruno Labbadia’s plans for the upcoming season. He’ll certainly be one to watch in the Bundesliga. Cunha can be one of the most exciting players in the entire league.

Lucas Tousart

Tousart was another signing Hertha had made in the January transfer window. The French defensive midfielder joined the Bundesliga side from Lyon. However, he did not feature for the club as he remained with Lyon for the 2019/20 season.

One of his best moments last season was his performance against Juventus in the Champions League round of 16 first leg. He scored the match-winner and helped keep the strong Juventus attack quiet in the 1-0 victory for Lyon.

The 23-year-old should be able to step in and help Hertha from the start. He will be a key for them in the defensive midfield role. Tousart is a very physical player who can also deliver high-quality passes. This signing has the potential to shape up to be one of the best acquisitions Hertha have made recently.

Krzysztof Piatek

One of the more surprising acquisitions Hertha made last January was bringing in Piatek. The Polish striker joined from AC Milan after struggling to find the back of the net in Serie A.

Piatek did not have an immediate impact at Hertha last season. He finished with four goals in 15 appearances. Despite the rough start to life in the Bundesliga, there’s reason to believe that he will be a key part of Hertha’s success in the coming year.

In past seasons Piatek was able to score with ease. As a result, his recent struggles may be just an anomaly in his career. The 25-year-old striker still remains a player who is capable of producing impressive numbers in a league such as the Bundesliga. There could very well be a resurgence in the cards in the 2020/21 season for Piatek.
