Ben Chilwell Signs a Five-Year Deal With Chelsea

Chelsea

The crazy transfer window taking place at Chelsea continues. The Blues and manager Frank Lampard pick up their fourth signing of the summer in Ben Chilwell, with many more seemingly set to follow.

The former Leicester City defender has signed a five-year deal at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea Confirm Arrival of Ben Chilwell

Massive Transfer Window for Lampard’s Revolution

After Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner were signed before the transfer window opened, Chelsea have not stopped there. Chilwell is just one of the several players set to move to Stamford Bridge.

Xavier Mbuyamba, a promising young centre-back likened to Virgil van Dijk, has already been confirmed, originally joining the academy team but with a view to first-team action.

Next, another promising young centre-back, albeit a more established one in Malang Sarr, is set to be confirmed as a Chelsea player soon. Another soon-to-be-confirmed signing is the vastly-experienced Thiago Silva, a very smart free transfer for Lampard.

Kai Havertz is also expected to join. One of Europe’s most promising youngsters, the 21-year-old will sign in a move that could be worth up to €100m with add-ons.

Without a doubt this is one of Chelsea’s best transfer windows in recent history, and it shows club owner Roman Abramovich has backed Lampard immensely.

Potential Injury Concern

Before the move was confirmed, there were rumours that Chelsea were unsure about the extent of Chilwell’s heel injury. He missed the last six games through injury, and he could still be out for weeks.

However, Chilwell has always been Lampard’s priority at left-back. Once it became clear that his issue is not chronic, the move was given its blessing by the Chelsea hierarchy.

The young Englishman will likely miss the pre-season with his new club, but he will be fit soon. Hopefully, Chilwell can finally be the man to properly replace Ashley Cole in west London.
