REPORT: Malang Sarr Agrees Chelsea Move

Malang Sarr

Former Nice defender Malang Sarr has agreed a move to Chelsea, according to Fabrizio Romano. The 21-year-old is a free agent having left the Ligue 1 side this summer and has been a prime target for Frank Lampard. The club are still considering whether to send Sarr straight out on loan.

Malang Sarr Agrees Chelsea Move

One for the Present or Future

Despite only being 21, Sarr has racked up over 100 appearances in the French top flight with Nice. He also spent two season’s with the club’s second side and has played in six different age groups for the France national team.

If the club decide to not loan him out, then he could comfortably become a back-up straight away in this Blues side. It would likely see Fikayo Tomori loaned out, as has been rumoured throughout the summer, allowing Sarr to get game time alongside the likes of Kurt Zouma, Cesar Azpilicueta and, likely, Thiago Silva.

If they do loan him out, though, he will come back ready to battle for a regular first-team place at Stamford Bridge. There is currently no indication of where he could go on loan to, but Romano reports that there were a number of Italian sides interested in doing a permanent deal for the defender, so one of those could still be interested in doing a loan move.

Chelsea Finally Bolstering Their Defence

Defence had been the key issue for Chelsea to fix in this window. When rumours circulated that Kai Havertz was on their radar, having already signed Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner, concerns were raised that the porous defence was to remain.

However, Thiago Silva is set to sign this week, Ben Chilwell’s deal from Leicester City is close and now Sarr’s imminent arrival means that the defence is finally taking shape.
