REPORT: James Maddison on Verge of New Leicester City Contract

Maddison Leicester

As Ben Chilwell reportedly edges closer to completing a move to Chelsea, Leicester City are set to confirm the good news of a new contract for James Maddison, according to John Percy of the Telegraph. The 23-year-old’s reported new contract will come as a relief for Leicester fans with Chilwell’s expected sale to Chelsea dealing a huge blow to the Foxes.

The Chance to Perform in Europe

After finishing 5th last season, Leicester are set to play in the Europa League this season, competing against the likes of AC Milan and fellow English side Arsenal. Maddison has already proved his worth on plenty of occasions in the Premier League for Leicester, but the Europa League provides the midfielder with a whole new stage to perform on.

Instead of facing your average Premier League side, Maddison will be expected to provide against some of the best teams in Europe. With the talent of this Leicester side around him, however, the former Norwich man should be more than capable of shining in the Europa League this season.

Another Top Four Challenge for Maddison and Leicester?

Despite being in the top four for some time last season, a final day defeat to Manchester United saw the Foxes drop down into 5th place and out of the Champions League places. It was a devastating dent into what was, for some time, a fantastic season for Brendan Rodgers’ side.

The season coming up acts as a chance for redemption, however, as Leicester look to reach the almost improbable heights of the top four. With Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea to compete with, though, they can expect a difficult battle.

No matter what, it certainly seems like Maddison will play a large part in that battle with a new contract reportedly imminent.
