REPORT: Ainsley Maitland Niles Targeted by Wolverhamton Wanderers and Newcastle United

Maitland Niles

After an inconsistent season last time out, going from little playtime to Wembley stardom under Arteta, Ainsley Maitland Niles has emerged as a target for Newcastle United and Wolverhampton Wanderers, according to Simon Stone of BBC Sport.

The Arsenal man struggled for some time last season at the Emirates before becoming a surprise starter in the FA Cup semi-final and final clashes at Wembley.

The two games seemingly put an end to the questions of his Arsenal future, but as the interest arises, the 22-year-old could look to leave for permanent first-team football ahead of the season.

Versatility The Key for Maitland Niles

During his time at Arsenal, Maitland Niles has shown his capabilities to play in midfield, on the wing, and at fullback. The fact is, it is that versatility that makes him stand out among other young talents. It is that ability to play in all thirds of the pitch that makes him such an attractive option for other clubs.

By targeting, and potentially securing a deal for Englishman, clubs will essentially be getting cover for several positions. With Arsenal looking to fund transfers themselves this summer, too, the Arsenal man could well be shown the exit door.

The Chance to Star for Wolves?

With Wolves rumoured to be targeting the Arsenal man this summer, Maitland Niles could be given the chance to become a star at the Molineux this summer. Nuno Esperito Santo’s side are a team on the rise, too, and, by adding the 22-year-old, could rise into the top six this season.

Last season, they finished a respectable seventh alongside an excellent Europa League run. This season, however, they will be aiming to hit heights that were unthinkable two years ago by rising into the Champions League places; a journey that could start with the transfer of Maitland Niles.
