Lewis Came Through The Ranks

Lewis, who was born in Liverpool, has made just one senior appearance for his boyhood club. It came in the Reds’ FA Cup fourth-round replay win over Shrewsbury Town. The left-back was amongst a number of youngsters used on that night as the first-team squad took their winter break.

Known as a versatile left-sided defender, Lewis joined the Academy at six-years-old and has progressed through the Kirkby academy to the U23 side. He also captained the U18s under Steven Gerrard in 2017/18.

Capped by England at U16 through to U20 age group, the future is bright for Lewis. He will hope his season out in France gives helps him continue to progress in the right direction.

Limited Game-Time at Anfield

The loan departure comes after the Premier League champions strengthened their cover for first-choice left-back Andy Robertson last week.

The arrival of Kostas Tsimikas from Olympiacos has meant for the likes of Lewis, and another young left full-back Yasser Larouci, their chances of first-team action at the club would be severely limited.

Larouci, however, looks more likely to leave on a permanent deal as the 19-year-old Algerian goes in search of regular first-team appearances.

Elsewhere for Liverpool, the champions have begun their pre-season tour of Austria after flying out on Saturday. The players are now back in training, joined by their new Greek international signing, ahead of the start of the 2020/21 campaign.

A campaign that begins earlier than most for the Reds as they get the action underway on August 29 in the Community Shield against Arsenal.
