Ismaïla Sarr: ‘I’ll Play in the Championship’

Ismaila Sarr

Following relegation from the Premier League, Ismaïla Sarr has been the subject of many transfer rumours, and rightfully so. The young winger impressed several top clubs while in the Premier League, drawing comparisons to fellow Senegalese forward Sadio Mané. Yet, despite speculation about his Watford future, Sarr told Senegalese publication Sans Limite with the Watford Observer translating: “If Watford wants me to stay, I’ll play in the Championship.”

No Official Talks of an Exit as of Yet

Surprisingly, despite Sarr’s obvious talent, he confirmed when talking to Sans Limite that no internal discussions have taken place as of yet, saying: “I’m at the level of information as everyone else about these transfer rumours. Every day, like everyone else, I receive information like what I’m going to play for Liverpool, Manchester United etc..but really, for the moment, we have not yet discussed it internally.”

He did then go onto reveal, however, that agents have come to him “about proposals from important teams” but for now will “remain quiet” in his corner.

Sarr Future Still in Question

It certainly seems through the words of Sarr himself that anything could happen this summer. It is clear that, if Watford asks him to, he will play in the Championship. But, at the same, if an offer does come in for a suitable amount, do not be surprised to see the Senegal international make a summer switch from Watford.

A move could, in fact, help Sarr realise his Champions League dream, too, with clubs at the very top reportedly interested. According to David Lynch and Simon Collins of the Evening Standard, Liverpool have emerged as favourites for the winger’s signature this summer. With a reported £40 million price tag placed on Sarr, though, Jurgen Klopp may opt for a cheaper option this summer.

Ismaïla Sarr will certainly be a player to keep an eye on this summer as the transfer speculation continues to grow.
