Gillingham have confirmed the signing of Arsenal youngster Zech Medley on a season-long loan.

Arsenal Youngster Zech Medley Joins Gillingham

Highly-Rated Youngster

Speaking about his new signing, Gillingham manager Steve Evans said: “We are delighted that Zech has joined us.

“The lad has taken his time, spoken to numerous clubs and he is a superb addition.

“I would like to acknowledge the support of Mikel Arteta and his staff at Arsenal for agreeing that Zech should continue his education here.

“He is actually a Medway boy, he went to school in Gillingham and his family still live here, in many ways he is one of our own.”

Medley has three first-team appearances to his name at Arsenal, all of which have come in cup competitions.

The 20-year-old made his debut for the Gunners in a 3-0 win over Vorskla Poltava, before featuring in a 1-0 win over FK Qarabag in the same competition.

However, a move to the Gills will over Medley the chance for regular first-team appearances.

Jacob Mellis Joins

Medley followed in the footsteps of Jacob Mellis, who was announced as a Gills player earlier today.

The 29-year-old joins the Gills after his short-term contract with Bolton Wanderers expired. He only made six appearances for the Trotters before the season was curtailed.

Previously, he enjoyed a two-and-a-half year spell with Mansfield Town, where he made over 100 appearances.

Speaking to the official Gillingham website, Evans said: “Jacob is a player I have really liked for a long time and he did incredibly well during my time at Mansfield, in some games he was exceptional.

“In fact, not long after I left Mansfield, he had some family problems which would have rocked anybody, but he’s with us now and it’s a big year for him.

“He had a terrific education at Chelsea, and anyone selected for a Champions League match has to be considered a very good player!”

Mellis said: “I’m really happy; it all happened pretty quickly but I’m pleased to have everything signed.

“I played for the Gaffer and Rayns at Mansfield and they got the best out of me so when the chance came up to join them again, I wanted to do it.

“Everyone has missed Football so I think you’ll see hungry players everywhere; I can’t wait to get back training again.”
