REPORT: Leeds United Target Brentford’s Said Benrahma

Leeds United are prepared to make a bid for Brentford winger Said Benrahma, according to Mike McGrath of the Telegraph.

It’s believed that the 24-year-old is valued at around £25 million. Leicester City, West Ham United, Aston Villa and Crystal Palace are also rumoured to be interested in the Algerian International.

Leeds Set to Rebuild for Premier League

Leeds United are back in the Premier League for the first time in 16 years. They won the Championship, finishing ten points clear of West Bromwich Albion and 12 points above Said Benrahma’s side, Brentford.

The West Yorkshire side now look to bring in players who will help them re-establish themselves in the top flight, and Benrahma could be one of them.

The Algerian was scintillating in the Championship last season, scoring 17 goals and bagging eight assists. He was also part of the ‘BMW’ trio with Ollie Watkins and Brian Mbuemo, which scored a combined 57 goals.

Benrahma has the ability to play on the right-hand side, but he is most effective as a left-winger. Playing on the left allows him to cut inside onto his stronger, and more dangerous, right foot.

The Algerian would be a real asset for Leeds, too. Under Marcelo Bielsa, they play a high-tempo and free flowing style of play, something Benrahama has been accustomed to under Thomas Frank at Brentford.

He also has the ability to break down well organised defences, something Bielsa’s side struggled with at times last season, and will need to improve on in the Premier League.

Play-Off Defeat Huge Blow for Brentford

Brentford narrowly missed out on their first ever promotion to the Premier League on Tuesday when they were beaten 2-1 by West London rivals Fulham at Wembley. That loss may mean the club look set to lose their star players, including Said Benrahma, and Ollie Watkins.

Though it’s rumoured that Watkins has a release clause of £18 million, the Bees are believed to want nothing less than £25 million for both players.

With a potential salary cap introduced in the Championship, it could prove difficult to replace their attacking duo.

The English season starts on September 12 and the transfer window shuts on October 5.
