Oxford United Sign Sean Clare From Heart of Midlothian

Versatile Player

Naturally a central midfielder, Clare has featured in numerous positions for Hearts since his arrival in 2018. He has played up top, but more recently had reverted to an attacking right-back.

It is believed that U’s boss Karl Robinson will be looking to use him as a right-sided defender, but will have the option to move to different positions if needed.

The London-born player scored 12 goals and provided six assists from 71 appearances during his time north of the border following his move from Sheffield Wednesday in 2018.

What Was Said

Speaking to the clubs’ official website, Clare said: “Oxford are a good club. They always play an exciting style of football which will hopefully suit the way I want to play.

“They went close to promotion last season but are adding good players to a very strong squad and I know they are very ambitious to keep pushing on from this position.

“I have stayed pretty fit over the last few months of lockdown but now it will be a case of keep building that up over pre-season, get to know the lads here, and try to play my part in helping the team go one better this time than last season.”

Third Summer Signing

Clare becomes Karl Robinson’s third summer signing. The U’s snapped up Joel Cooper from Linfield, before adding Matty Taylor on a permanent basis following his release from Bristol City.

It is believed that Robinson is hopeful of adding more faces before the EFL votes to decided on a proposed salary cap for clubs in League One, which takes place tomorrow.
