A Second Schlotterbeck

Fans of Union Berlin would be delighted to hear the name, Schlotterbeck. That is because Keven, brother of new signing Nico, spent last season on loan at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei.

Keven made 29 appearances and scored once for Die Eisernen as they ended their maiden Bundesliga campaign in mid-table.

As a result Nico, who is a Germany U21 international, follows in his brothers’ footsteps and looks to establish himself with the Bundesliga outfit.

Schlotterbeck turned out for Stuttgarter Kickers, Karlsruher SC and VfR Aalen before making the switch to Freiburg. He has made 16 appearances for Breisgau-Brasilianer and made his debut in a 2-1 victory over Hertha Berlin.

What Was Said

Speaking to the clubs’ official website, Schlotterbeck said: “Berlin is an exciting city with a special football club. My brother has already told me a lot about Union and after what he told me, you can only look forward to the club and its fans.

“I’m looking forward to the season at Union and hope to play in front of crowds there soon,” added the 20-year-old.

Oliver Ruhnert, Director of Professional Football at 1. FC Union Berlin, added: “With Nico Schlotterbeck, we have a young, highly talented defender who has proven his great potential in the Bundesliga.

“With his way of playing football, he should make our game variable and personally take the next step in his development.”

Fourth Summer Signing

Nico Schlotterbeck becomes Urs Fischer’s fourth summer signing. The centre back, who can also play on the left, follows fellow defender Niko Giesselmann and midfielders Sebastian Griesbeck and Keita Endo.
