Coventry City Ramp up Interest in Town Forward

League One champions Coventry City are firmly interested in Kayden Jackson, according to reports.

Mark Robins‘ side have been given a welcomed boost in their pursuit of Town striker Jackson.

The 26-year-old has held ongoing talks since the turn of the year; however, the East Anglian Daily Times claims he has turned down the Blues’ latest offer.

Jackson scored 11 goals for the Tractor Boys last season, finishing top-scorer alongside James Norwood.

The physical forward joined Town from Accrington Stanley in 2018 and has formed a good partnership with Norwood.

His return of 11 goals in 32 games, with seven assists, was not enough to help Paul Lambert‘s side achieve a top-six finish.

Peterborough United came close to signing Jackson in 2018 before he opted for the Suffolk side; however, the EADT claim the Posh could reignite their interest if in-demand striker Ivan Toney departs London Road.

Jackson has scored 15 goals in 74 games for the Blues since making a £1.7 million move to Portman Road.

Ipswich Town need to improve their attacking options if they are to achieve promotion from League One.

The Suffolk side have just two out-and-out central forwards following Will Keane‘s departure.

Jack Lankester and Freddie Sears can feature as wide forwards; however, the duo are slowly returning to fitness after their respective injuries.

The Verdict

A move to Coventry City seems a tad strange for Jackson.

While it is no surprise that he may want to move away from an under-performing side, he failed to hit the ground running while Town were in the second-tier.

Whether Town will be willing to let Jackson depart to one of their division rivals is another concern.

League One will be particularly difficult with the relegation of Hull City, Wigan Athletic and Charlton Athletic.

Town may not want to lose Jackson to a promotion rival; however, they may be forced to cash-in, reinvest and take the short-term blow, than lose Jackson on a free transfer.
