REPORT: Jadon Sancho One Step Closer to Joining Manchester United

Jadon Sancho

Manchester United are ready to sanction a move for Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho. Sancho, who scored 17 goals and assisted 17 more this season, is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s number one target. After securing Champions League football for next season, United now know they have the budget to secure the 20-year old. According to reports from ESPN and The AthleticManchester United officials will begin negotiations for Sancho in the coming weeks.

Jadon Sancho One Step Closer to Joining Manchester United

A Long Transfer Saga

Manchester United tend to complete their business in a slow manner. They courted Harry Maguire all of last summer, before succumbing to Leicester City’s £80 million demand.

The Jadon Sancho saga will be no different. ESPN’s Rob Dawson reports that Borussia Dortmund are willing to accept a bid of £118 million whereas Manchester United currently value Sancho at £80 million.

Laurie Whitwell of The Athletic is reporting that this difference in valuation means the deal will probably last until the end of the transfer window. However, the new Premier League season kicks off on the 12th of September, so Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will want Sancho in much sooner.

Champions League Football

The advancement of the deal is down to Manchester United qualifying for the Champions League. The victory over Leicester confirmed United’s place amongst Europe’s elite.

The monetary benefits of the Champions League mean it is therefore financially viable for Manchester United to sign Sancho. It would be difficult to complete the deal without a Champions League spot, especially as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Reports state that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer contacted United chiefs after the Leciester victory regarding transfers. It is clear he is focused on building the squad towards a Premier League title challenge and competing on the European front.

Despite Sancho remaining the top target, United do have contingencies. Last week, reports emerged suggesting Manchester United are targeting Bayern Munich winger Kingsley Coman.
