Daniel Takes Pay Cut

Daniel has signed a new one-year deal with the League One side. Having joined the Brewers 18-months ago from Peterborough United, the left-back has made 49 appearances for the Brewers.

Not only has the 32-year-old penned a new deal, but he has agreed to take a pay cut to help the club as they fight the financial battles caused as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Daniel’s extension follows the news that Steven Lawless and Charles Vernam have joined Jake Buxton’s squad ahead of next season.

What Was Said

Speaking to the clubs’ official website, he said: “I am buzzing to be staying at the club and cannot wait for the football to get back started.

“It’s been a tough number of months without football, but I’m really excited to get back playing and working under the new manager.”

Manager Jake Buxton, who replaced Nigel Clough after he left during lockdown, added: “We’re happy that Colin has signed a new deal and I think it shows to everyone that a lot of players want to stay and play their football here.

“His Football League experience speaks for itself and since arriving, his availability for selection has been brilliant, chipping in with a number of assists.

“He’s another player that we can utilise in a number of positions and I back myself to get the best out of him. It’s great to have him back!”

Daniel Career

Colin Daniel began his career at Crewe Alexandra where he made 17 appearances before joining Macclesfield Town. During his time with the Silkmen, Daniel made just under 150 appearances.

He dropped down a division to join Mansfield Town, where he won promotion from the Conference in his first season. Eight goals in 75 appearances from two seasons followed before he joined Port Vale.

He spent two seasons at Port Vale before another two seasons with Blackpool. He then spent just six months with Posh before his move to the Brewers.
