The Aston Villa assistant head coach has reportedly indicated his interest in the vacant role.

Bristol City have been on the search for a new boss after sacking Lee Johnson on July 4.

Terry has been with the Villans for the last couple of years but is keen to make his first step into management.

The 39-year-old has witnessed the success of former teammate Frank Lampard at Derby County and Chelsea; meanwhile, his former England teammate Steven Gerrard has been a success at Rangers.

According to the Sunday Express, seeing his former colleagues succeed has inspired him to search for a sole management role.

Speaking about his ambitions last year, he said: “In the long run that’s obviously my ambition but I’m not thinking that. I’ve said as a player I got to the heights I wanted to get to and I firmly believe I’m a YTS (Youth Training Scheme) again.

“I’m starting right from the very bottom, I’m not afraid to say that, I’m not afraid to do all the dirty work, picking up the cones, the balls, the bibs, that’s part of my education.”

Search is On

A number of individuals have already been linked with the role, each with varying levels of experience.

Chris Hughton is the bookies’ favourite having had a successful time managing clubs in the Championship; he has taken Brighton & Hove Albion and Newcastle United to the Premier League from the second-tier.

Steven Gerrard is another big name associated with the role; however, the Sunday Express claims he has withdrawn himself from the race.

Plymouth Argyle boss Ryan Lowe and the currently unemployed Mick McCarthy are further names linked.
