REPORT: Leeds United Set to Fight Championship Rivals for Haydon Roberts

Seagulls Defender Likely to Depart South Coast

Brighton defender Roberts is an asset viewed highly by several Championship clubs, it appears.

The 18-year-old could follow in the footsteps of Ben White at the Amex Stadium.

White, 22, has been continuing his development with Marcelo Bielsa‘s Leeds and Roberts could follow in his footsteps.

White has been a regular fixture within Leeds‘ squad as they sit on the cusp of promotion to the Premier League.

According to the Telegraph, Roberts is a talent wanted by three Championship clubs.

The report names Leeds alongside Brentford and Derby County as potential suitors for Haydon Roberts.

It adds that the Bees and the Rams have been monitoring his progress throughout the season.

According to the report, German sides Mainz and RB Leipzig have also sent scouts to watch him for the Brighton Under-23s.

Roberts made his first-team debut this season when he scored in the EFL Cup loss to Aston Villa in September.

He has produced a number of impressive performances in the Seagulls’ academy after rising rapidly through the system in the last five years.

The starlet has made over 20 appearances at England youth level.

Roberts has been compared to White as being the next big thing on the Seagulls’ production conveyor belt.

The 22-year-old has played every Championship fixture for the Whites this season. He has also seen his valuation rise beyond £30 million.

Brighton must now decide whether to cash in on White; his performances at Elland Road have led to interest from top Premier League clubs.

Clubs in the second-tier, meanwhile, hope they can strike a deal to sign Roberts. They have the ability to provide regular first-team football; however, a move to Germany, following the likes of Jadon Sancho, could also help his development.
