REPORT: Manchester City Considering Move for Jack Grealish

Jack Grealish

Manchester City could make a move for Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish, according to Mike McGrath of the Telegraph and Jonathan Spencer of Mail Online. However, they are likely to only consider a swoop if Leroy Sane makes his expected move to Bayern Munich.

Rivalling Their Rivals

Manchester United have been one of the main clubs looking at Villa’s star man. He has constantly been linked with a move to the Red Devils in the last few transfer windows and a deal appeared to be creeping closer.

Those reports have died down recently and, with the advancement of Sane’s potential move to Bayern, it means City are needing to look elsewhere.

It could also be a good time for Pep Guardiola’s side to begin a rebuild. They are over 20 points behind Liverpool, who have already wrapped up the Premier League title, and much of their squad are either ageing, leaving or rumoured to be leaving.

McGrath’s report points to the fact that Guardiola sees Grealish as one of the biggest talents in the Premier League. Before City’s Carabao Cup final against Villa earlier this season, the Spaniard said he was “one of the best players in the league” and that he was a “big fan of him”.

Guardiola is also not looking to bring in a ‘straight swap’ for Sane. Grealish is a versatile player who, as well as being able to operate as a left-sided forward, can also drop in to play in midfield.

Grealish has been one of the stand-out performers in a dire first season back in the Premier League for Villa. With David Silva set to depart at the end of the season, too, there is a void in the creative area of midfield that will need to be filled.

The Englishman has the ability to cover both of these new roles that are going to appear in City’s squad.
