Norwich City’s Relegation Worries Turn to Manchester United and FA Cup Action

Norwich City will look to put their poor run of league results behind them as they face Manchester United in the FA Cup.

With the Canaries struggling in the Premier League, the focus could move to the FA Cup instead.

Team News

Norwich have had an injury crisis this season and are still suffering from a lack of defenders available. Christoph Zimmerman, Sam Byram and Grant Hanley are all out until the end of the season.

Canaries’ boss Daniel Farke left star players Teemu Pukki and Todd Cantwell on the bench against Everton earlier this week. This suggests he was resting them with the FA Cup quarter-final game in mind. However, both were brought on to support their struggling team.

Things are looking better in the United camp. The only two players suffering from long-term injuries are defenders Axel Tuanzebe and Phil Jones.

With Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford both fit again, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was able to field a very strong starting XI against Sheffield United. He also made effective substitutes, bringing on five players with plenty of first-team experience.

Previous Meetings

United have been victorious in both meetings in the league this season. They won 4-0 at home and 3-1 away. At Carrow Road, Tim Krul saved two penalties, saving the Canaries from a possible embarrassing 5-1 loss.

Contract News

As with all big teams, there are many transfer rumours flying around United at the minute. However, the only confirmed contract signing comes for Scott McTominay. Though the same news for Fred and Nemanja Matic looks fairly certain, too.

What Would a Win Mean?

For Norwich, progress in the FA Cup could be vital to proving they belong in top tier football. The Canaries have only reached the semi-final three times and not since 1992.

For United, this is the last chance of lifting a trophy this season. The Red Devils haven’t won any silverware since 2017. Solskjaer will be looking to pick up his first trophy for the team since moving from player to manager.
