RUMOUR: Thiago Alcantara Wants Liverpool Move

Thiago Alcantara has been at the centre of Bayern Munich’s midfield for almost seven years now, joining forces with the likes of Xabi Alonso and Joshua Kimmich over the years to dominate the Bundesliga. The Spaniard’s elegance on the ball has been mesmerising at times whilst wearing the famous red of Bayern Munich.

When on the ball, he is one of the most aesthetically pleasing players to watch as he dances past players before spraying a perfect pass across the pitch. Those in Munich have had the pleasure and enjoyment of witnessing Thiago’s elegance week in week out for years. But, like all good things, his time in Germany will someday come to an end; an end that could be approaching near after Christian Falk reported rumours of the Spaniard’s desire to play for Liverpool amid ongoing contract talks with Bayern Munich.

RUMOUR: Thiago Alcantara Wants Liverpool Move

A Coutinho Replacement at Last?

Since the departure of Philippe Coutinho, Liverpool have drastically improved, going from top four hopefuls to title challengers. The sale of Coutinho funded moves for Fabinho, Alisson Becker and perhaps most importantly, Virgil van Dijk; it is clear that the Reds got the better end of the deal. But, since making those additions to improve defensively, Liverpool have struggled to find a creative source from midfield.

Despite sitting comfortably at the top of the league, Liverpool has been forced to rely on their defensive resolve to see out many narrow victories after failing to put the game out of sight at the other end.

The transfer of Thiago could well finally solve the lack of creativity from midfield; his ability to dictate the tempo of any game would provide Liverpool with the perfect midfield option to play alongside the similarly agile Naby Keita.

The Chance For a Bargain Deal

With Thiago’s contract running out in a years time, Bayern will be keen to cash in before he becomes a free agent. This could lead to a bargain deal for the likes of Liverpool as the Bundesliga Champions become more and more desperate for some kind of profit. In reality, the Spaniard’s value is over £50 million, but due to the contract situation, this could drop by £20 million to form the bargain of the summer.

Whatever happens, it is a situation that Bayern will want to solve as quickly and as silently as possible, whether that be by meeting Thiago’s contract demands or showing the Spaniard the exit door after several successful years at the club.
