Harry Kane Aiming for 200 Premier League Goals

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane says he wants to reach 200 goals in the Premier League. The England captain scored his 137th in just 203 appearances last night as Spurs eased past relegation-threatened West Ham United. At just 26-years-old, it’s a remarkable statistic that shows just how valuable Kane is to Spurs.

Kane Would Be in Esteemed Company

Only two players have ever surpassed 200 goals in the Premier League – Alan Shearer and Wayne Rooney. Shearer retired in his mid-30s having reached an astonishing 260 strikes at both Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United. Rooney, meanwhile, is still playing, albeit at Derby County and in the Championship, so he is unlikely to add to his top-flight total again.

Kane has age on his side. At 26, he has not yet hit the peak of his career. Even in an injury-hit season, last night was his 12th goal of the campaign. He was one of the beneficiaries of the extended season as he would’ve been unlikely to feature again had it ended in May. He picked up a thigh injury in December that was expected to rule him out for six months.

He’s back fit now though and he has his eye firmly set on reaching that 200 mark. He told Sky Sports after last night’s game: “I’m still only 26 so hopefully I can get to that 200 mark sooner rather than later and go from there.

“Scoring is the best feeling in the world.

“Two hundred games… it goes so quick. The years fly by and you have to make the most of it.”

Kane’s current total has him in good stead to reach that target. He is 13th in the all-time top scorers list in the Premier League. However, Sergio Aguero is the only active player in the league above him.
