The Underrated Job That Hansi Flick Has Done At Bayern Munich

Hansi Flick has been a success since his appointment at Bayern Munich. The Bundesliga season is usually a dominant one for Bayern; they usually ease past team after team, scoring bags of goals in the process as well as conceding little at the other end. The Bayern dominance, for the most part, has been unchallenged and ruthless, resulting in seven title wins in a row.

No matter what, the Bavarians have always seemed to find a way to reach the summit; there have been obstacles in the way, sure, but no too big to prevent the inevitable of another title lift. Those obstacles have never been bigger than this season, though, and Hansi Flick has played an underrated and unforeseen role in pushing Bayern back onto the road of eight in a row; a push that started with a season revival in November.

The Underrated Job That Hansi Flick Has Done At Bayern Munich

Niko Kovac’s Sacking

To set the scene, Bayern Munich found themselves in an unprecedented position at a time they were usually top of the tree; Niko Kovac and co sat four points adrift in the title race, a position that nobody could ever think to associate with a team like Bayern Munich. But, that was the reality. Kovac had led the Champions into misery and left their title hopes doubtful for the first time in almost a decade. And after a 5-1 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt, his time in charge was up.

A rescue job was needed for the first time in what seemed like forever at Bayern Munich. Usually, as previously mentioned, it is plane sailing for those in Munich as they set sail for another title. But, this season was different. The boat was on course to crash after sailing to success for the past seven seasons; they needed a new captain to steer the ship and with that need, up stepped Hansi Flick.

The Perfect Start Under Flick

The new captain got off to a flyer, too, as Bayern overcame Borussia Dortmund in Der Klassiker. If there’s any way to restore confidence in a side it is with a derby day smashing of Borussia Dortmund. The win brought normality back to the Bayern ranks; they were back to their usual ways of convincingly beating sides; goals were once again flowing and, clean sheets were arriving. In their next two games, they scored a total of ten goals. With a quick switch of management, Bayern had once again found their dominant form. And they haven’t looked back since.

Dominance Restored

The Bavarians have risen once again under Flick with 21 wins out of a possible 24 taking them back to the summit where they belong. Flick has installed the confidence back within the Bayern ranks; he has stopped the leak of goals at the back. The defensive combination of Alphonso Davies and David Alaba has helped to concede just 15 goals in 24 games under Hansi Flick; gone are the days of five-goal thrashings at the hands of a mid table side. Instead, under the leadership of Flick, Bayern put five past Eintracht Frankfurt for fitting revenge.

The Champions now look set to add yet another title to their collection and an eighth in a row after Flick’s timely mid-season revival. It was a crisis in Munich that may have only lasted a few months, but, the fact remains, this season has been Bayern’s most challenging in years which has seen them overcome new challengers for the title; a title they have been forced to graft for.
