REPORT: West Ham United Keen to Keep Tomas Soucek But Midfielder Will Leave if They Are Relegated

Tomas Soucek

Roshane Thomas from The Athletic reports that West Ham United are looking to extend their loan deal for Tomas Soucek. The loan would last until the end of the season-to-resume.  However, if the Irons want him to remain at the club via a permanent deal, then they will have to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

Slavia Prague let star-man Soucek out on loan to West Ham in a £4 million deal until the end of the season. Furthermore, he has enjoyed his ongoing spell. Soucek has impressed during his time at the club, playing four times in the Premier League, and is happy living in London, where his wife and daughter have settled in nicely.

The Deal in Question

West Ham’s current loan for the Czech player lasts until the end of June but can be extended due to the suspension of football caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Soucek is happy to stay until the end of the season, once it resumes. Although, he is stating that he will leave if the Irons do not survive in the Premier League this season.

They currently sit in 16th place, level on points with 18th-placed Bournemouth. West Ham are in a big relegation fight, but can they stay up and prove to Soucek that he belongs in the Premier League?

West Ham’s Chances of Staying Up

The last time West Ham United were relegated was back in the 2010/11 season under Avram Grant. And, now, their Premier League status is threatened again.

Nineteenth-placed Aston Villa are only two points behind the Hammers with a game in hand. That means if they were to win that 29th game, they’d drop West Ham further into trouble. They would then have to make an uphill climb to the safety spots once again.

They have nine games to do so against opposition from across the reaches of the table, so there is a good chance they can make the push to survive in the league. It would definitely be a plus for both West Ham and Tomas Soucek.
