Spurs’ never-ending search for a second striker has seen them draw blanks for a number of seasons. The latest series of rumours takes the north London club towards the Scottish Premier League, taking an interest in Celtic star Odsonne Edouard.

A report from The Times suggests Spurs ‘have scouted him regularly’ throughout a striking campaign this season; seeing the Frenchman as a suitable back-up for England captain Harry Kane. The 22-year-old netted 21 goals and delivered 12 assists in 27 appearances this season – inspiring the Hoops towards their ninth consecutive league title.

However, the report also suggests Spurs could see Edouard as ‘as a potential replacement’ for Kane. The 26-year-old hinted he would consider his future in north London, if he felt the team was no longer progressing. Kane has cemented the centre forward spot with little competition for it for a number of seasons now. Spurs may be looking to land the Frenchman to fill the void and offer a fresh challenge for Kane.

Celtic Manager’s Plea

With Spurs looking to address their own desires, Celtic will also want to offer theirs to Edouard as well. Hoops boss Neil Lennon will be hoping to keep the Frenchman for his side’s historic ten-in-a-row title bid next season.

“We are going for ten in a row and that might be a big motivating factor for him to stay,” Lennon said.

The report suggests that Celtic would want an offer for Edouard to eclipse the £25 million fee paid by Arsenal for Kieran Tierney last season. Lennon acknowledges the speculation around the player, but remains resistant over a potential transfer.

“It’s inevitable there will be speculation surrounding Odsonne because of the player and talent he is.

“He hasn’t said anything to me about wanting to go. Whether that changes over the next while, we don’t know. But we have him on a really good contract and we are in a strong position to rebuff any interest in him.

“We don’t want to sell him. We are happy with him and he seems quite happy here.”
