Manchester United are reportedly taking an interest in Valencia’s Ferran Torres. Where Would Ferran Torres Fit In?

It is no secret that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Manchester United are incredibly interested in Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho. However, the declining economic situation may mean that other options could be explored on the right-wing. Torres would be considerably cheaper than Sancho, although, the 20-year-old still provides a goal threat.

Operating down the right for Valencia, Torres has eight goal involvements in 25 starts in La Liga this season. It is in the Champions League where he has shone this campaign. He has four goal involvements, including a goal in the round of 16.

What would attract Manchester United to the Spaniard is his blistering pace and dribbling technique. He averages around 2 successful dribbles per 90 and 1.5 key passes in all competitions. This makes him a key creative hub for Valencia, and at just 20, he could develop into one of the world’s top creative wingers. In a similar fashion to Sancho, Torres is comfortable both hugging the touchline and cutting inside. This makes him a good option to join a dynamic frontline with Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, and his creative style of play could aid the other two increase their output. Though Jadon Sancho is the priority for United, Ferran Torres would make a good backup option.

Is Manchester United the Right Club for Torres?

As alluded to earlier, Torres has the cream of European football monitoring his progress. Given they are not in the Champions League, why would he consider Manchester United?

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is clearly building a team for the future as well as the present. The majority of his signings have been young talent, whilst the average age of the squad is 24 – the youngest in the Premier League. Despite supposed underachievement, it is the potential of the United side which is exciting. This excitement may entice Torres to Old Trafford as he would be joining a group of similar-aged talented players. Manchester United have a clear vision, and if they can sell that vision of Premier League titles and Champions League battles, they may be able to land the wonderkid.

Being one of the star players may also attract Torres to Old Trafford, rather than being a fringe player at Barcelona. Young players want to play as much football as they can to aid their development. In recent years Barcelona have signed the likes of Malcom and Ousmane Dembele, both underwhelmed at the Camp Nou. These recent failures may dissuade Torres and persuade him to join a new project in Manchester.

The right of the front-three is a problem area for Manchester United which is a priority for the summer. Ferran Torres would be an exciting player to fill the gap, although the Manchester United board – and fans – would love to see Jadon Sancho wear a red shirt next season.
