Test Your Knowledge

The League One Play-Off Final has been held at three different stadiums in two different countries since it was first held in 1987.

Since then 27 different clubs have gone on to win the fixture to get promoted to the higher division.

Recent success of those clubs have included going on to become established Premier League clubs, win the top-flight title and, in one example, ultimately end up playing in non-league.

Every team has ambitions of winning automatic promotion where possible but to go up a league in a one-off final gets the heart-pounding for any team’s fans.

A Season Not Yet Over

The final method of conclusion for the League One season is yet to be determined.

Coventry City sit atop the standings five points ahead of Rotherham United; just three points separate the teams from 2nd to 8th.

Oxford United, Portsmouth, Fleetwood Town and Peterborough United are the clubs to currently occupy those play-off spots.

The EFL have recently said that clubs will still be promoted and relegated from the EFL if seasons are ended due to coronavirus.

Play-Offs will be played but with no more than four teams – a creative idea put forward by some sides.

The EFL confirmed that 51 per cent of clubs from all three divisions need to agree for the campaign at each level to be ended.

This could lead to a potential end for the League One season.

If the season is brought to an early end then an unweighted points-per-game system would send eighth-placed Wycombe Wanderers into the play-offs ahead of Peterborough.
