Who is Victor Lindelof Training With, and Why?

Having obtained permission from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Lindelof has joined in training with former side Vasteras SK in Sweden.

The 25-year-old travelled to his boyhood town to train with his boyhood team when the Premier League was suspended in an effort to keep his fitness levels up and intends to do so until told otherwise.

Sweden is far less affected by the Coronavirus than most of the rest of Europe. Although their death toll is rising, it has not yet reached the heights that warrant a lockdown. Professional football there is cancelled, but training is not, so Lindelof is maintaining his fitness there, instead of at home.

Great Improvement Since His Arrival

Currently, the Swede is world’s above where he was when he joined.

The Swedish defender moved to United from Portuguese side Benfica in 2017, but lacked confidence during his first season in a United shirt. He made just 17 appearances and was by no means impressive.

Last campaign, however, Lindelof’s game greatly improved. The Swede appeared 30 times for the Red Devils and even managed both a goal and an assist.

This season, he has come even further.

The defender is a regular partner for £80 million man Harry Maguire and has not been bad. Lindelof has provided a stable central defensive duo along with the former Leicester City player, the best since legendary pairing Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic. Although he has not been up to the great standard of now-captain Maguire, the 25-year-old has been solid, and still has much time ahead of him to grow.

Despite this, the Red Devils are looking for a world-class replacement. Samuel Umtiti is an option, while Kalidou Koulibaly seems to be first choice. With United willing to splash roughly €90 million on the latter, they seem fairly keen to find an alternative to Victor Lindelof at the back.
