Anthony Elanga

Manchester United have historically had a very successful youth academy, with players such as David Beckham, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs, having graduated from it. That has continued into more recent times, Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba among the current players to have emerged from the academy. There are still a plethora of promising individuals rising through the ranks, Hannibal Mejbri and Ayodeji Sotona just a few of the many. Anthony Elanga is another. The Swede is showing a lot of potential in United’s youth teams and might be one of the hottest prospects there.

Pace Among His Many Qualities

Like many in the Red Devils’ youth ranks, the 17-year-old is tremendously pacey. He shows that playing on the left wing for the U18s and U23s, having scored seven league goals for the former, and consistently plays well.

His long shots have shown many times, with a strike against Newcastle United U18s particularly memorable, having flown into the back of the net off the crossbar.

At 17, Elanga is already establishing himself in United’s U23s, and it may only be a matter of time before a call up to the first team comes his way.

First-Team Call-Up on the Cards

Since his appointment as manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has demonstrated his liberal approach to playing youngsters. The Norwegian has been the reason for many first-team breakthroughs in this campaign, putting his trust in youth.

Mason Greenwood has become a key player in the Manchester United team. The Englishman scores goals regularly, and is already making appearances week in, week out. United rely on the striker to come on and have an impact, and he regularly does.

Brandon Williams is another example of Solskjaer successfully trusting youth. The 19-year-old came in for an injured Luke Shaw, and has since played regularly, becoming a fan favourite, and also getting Shaw out of a rut of bad form.
