The Toffees are trying to lure the 22-year-old to Goodison Park by offering him a five-year-deal and a big pay rise. They’ve already submitted an offer of £30 million for the Brazilian, and the French club have indicated that they’ll accept the bid.

However, Everton aren’t the only club who are after Magalhaes. Chelsea and Arsenal are reportedly chasing his signature. The former Avai man is yet to decide who he wants to join, but it looks like he’ll definitely be on his way out of Lille soon. Despite speculation that the transfer window will be delayed due to coronavirus, it’s thought that the terms of his transfer will be finalised before the summer.

What Would Gabriel Magalhaes Bring to Everton?

Magalhaes has featured in 24 league clashes for Lille, who sit fourth in Ligue 1. He’s been a key part of a defence that has only conceded 27 goals in 28 matches. The six-foot-three defender reads the game well and is difficult to get past. According to WyScout, the Brazilian has won a respectable 69.23% of his ground duels this season.

His aerial stats are also decent. Magalhaes is involved in an average of 5.22 aerial duels per game, winning 64.34% of them. He’s chipped in with a goal this term, heading in the equaliser in Lille’s trip to Strasbourg.

Whoever signs him will know that they’d be signing a young player with plenty of potential to improve. At 22, he’s already proven he’s a reliable and solid defender at a high level. However, his passing accuracy is an area of his game that could be developed.

Gabriel attempts 7.98 long passes per game on average – the fourth most out of all Ligue 1 centre-backs this season. However, only 46.7% of them have been accurate. There’s no doubt that the Brazilian has the vision to be able to pick out a teammate with a diagonal ball, so he’ll be hoping to work on the execution of those passes.
