Sheffield United to Keep Players on Red Alert Regarding Fitness

Sheffield United

Premier League high flyers Sheffield United have issued numerous fitness programmes to be followed by their players during the Coronavirus epidemic. Bikes were provided by the club and the players were warned to stick to the training schedule.

A report from Stuart Rayner of the Yorkshire Post says the training programmes issued by the club to the players involve biking, lifting and maintaining their overall shape instead of slacking all day. For Sheffield United, this was not a holiday and it looks like they’re edging for a flying re-start whenever the football returns.

Sheffield United Take Measures to Ensure Fitness

Before the Outbreak

Sheffield United, before the pandemic, had been in hot form in this season’s Premier League following their promotion from the Championship. Good preparation and tactic refreshment awarded solid scorelines against top six teams and a potential European spot. They currently sit seventh having won ten, drawn eleven and lost only seven.

Captain’s Motivation

The work isn’t stopping there for the Blades. Captain Billy Sharp has been leading the motivation for the players to keep working hard while the league is on a halt to get an upper hand on other teams. A potential fine has been instilled by the club should the players not follow the fitness regulations put in place for home training.

Chris Basham’s View

As quoted by the Yorkshire Post, Chris Basham has made his thoughts clear on this situation. The centre-back added that Sharp had been one of the keenest users of this training schedule – doing bicycle kicks in his back garden and lifting objects.

Basham added that the separation of the Sheffield United side due to the lockdown has not been easy. He threw in that it was bland and they were just told what they were going to do. “Seeing the other side of not being together has been a bit hurtful but we’re doing the best we can. It’s a great group.”
