Odion Ighalo

Dharmesh Sheth of Sky Sports has reported that Manchester United loanee Odion Ighalo has been offered a massive wage to stay at Shanghai Shenhua after his loan spell ends. A great sum of £400,000-per-week is what the Chinese club are throwing Ighalo’s way to make sure he stays at the club. Furthermore, if he were to sign, he’d stay at the club for a further two years.

Manchester United’s Odion Ighalo to Make Huge Decision

The Nigerian’s England Experience Could Lead Him in a Certain Direction

Odion Ighalo has made a promising start to his loan at United.

Moreover, he has scored four goals in all competitions. It took Ighalo three substitute appearances to ‘warm-up’ but it has paid off now. He bagged his first goal against LASK in the Europa League, resulting in a 5-0 win. Furthermore, he scored his first brace in a 3-0 win over Derby County in the FA Cup.

He is a boyhood Manchester United fan and is extremely happy to don the shirt of the Red Devils. He returns to the Premier League proving all the doubters wrong from when he arrived at the club on deadline day.

This isn’t the first time he’s played in the Premier League, however. He had a decent few years at Watford. Ighalo scored 39 goals in just under 100 games for the club, helping them to survive relegation. He then joined Changchun Yatai in 2017 before joining Shanghai in 2019. He has scored an impressive 46 goals in 64 games while in China.

Now that his promising start back in the Premier League has come about, the prospect of him staying in China after this season has raised eyebrows; perhaps, it has raised the eyebrows Ighalo himself, especially after Shanghai’s mammoth contract offer.

Should Odion Ighalo Stay in Manchester, or Should He Go for the Money?

The money being offered is no small sum at all, even for mega-rich footballers.

If Odion Ighalo were to return to China after the season is over, he would become one of the richest footballers of all time.

If he were to stay at United, he could cement himself as a cult hero in red. Many fans have warmed up to him since he started getting his name on the scoresheet. The doubters have been proved wrong, and now that he’s proven his quality in Manchester, he may just definitely want to stay.

Manchester United would have to pay £15 million to make the loan permanent. But, Shanghai Shenhua are trying their hardest to get the Red Devils away from their striker with this contract extension.

Only time will tell to see if Odion Ighalo stays at Manchester United. Or, he might just take the route of those like Hulk, Oscar, and Carlos Tevez before him.
