Summer Intrigue

During the summer and at the beginning of this season, Declan Rice was one of the most in-demand talents in football. Manchester City, United, Chelsea and Liverpool were among the many clubs interested, however, he opted to stay with the Hammers.

Although he was not as heavily rumoured to be joining one of the big teams in January, that has now changed. Chelsea have reignited their interest in the Englishman, with Manchester United also targeting West Ham’s star midfielder.

Manchester United’s Rebuild

Manchester United and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are looking into Declan Rice. The 21-year-old is still young and, despite already impressing at the London Stadium, still has time to improve further.

He would fit perfectly into United’s youth-based rebuild. The Red Devils are interested in a number of defensive midfielders, with no one in the squad able to do the job at a title-challenging level yet. Eduardo Camavinga is a target of theirs, however, they will face much competition for his signature, and Rice is another top option. The 21-year-old could come into the team and do the job straight away, having proven himself at West Ham already.

Since coming into the job in the summer, Frank Lampard has shown that much of his focus as Chelsea boss will be on youth. Lampard has a great amount of talent at his disposal, with Mason Mount, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Billy Gilmour among the many Blues players with great, promising futures ahead of them.

Rice could join and become yet another of these. Lampard could nurture him into an incredible midfielder, while he would also be playing with so many talented individuals around him. Chelsea seem to have reignited their interest in the Englishman, and, buying him would reap great rewards.
