Coronavirus Latest: Elite Football Suspended Until April 30 in New Ruling

Joint FA, EFL and Premier League Statement

In a joint statement, they confirmed the further suspension of football due to coronavirus.

The suspension covers fixtures in the Premier League, EFL, Women’s Super League, Women’s Championship.

All fixtures in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are currently postponed.

All fixtures had previously been suspended until April 3 at the earliest; however, the constant changing news in regards to Covid-19 has led to the new date.

FA rules state that the league must finish by June 1.

The authorities have, however, agreed to extend the seasons indefinitely in order for the respective campaigns to be completed.

A statement read: “We’re united in our commitment to finding ways of resuming the 2019-20 football season and ensuring all domestic and European club league and cup matches are played as soon as it is safe and possible to do so.

“We’ve collectively supported UEFA in postponing EURO 2020 to create space in the calendar to ensure domestic and European club league and cup matches have an increased opportunity to be played and, in doing so, maintain the integrity of each competition.”

Earlier this week it was announced that the European Championships would be delayed by 12 months.

It continues: “The progress of COVID-19 remains unclear and we can reassure everyone the health and welfare of players, staff and supporters are our priority.

“We will continue to follow Government advice and work collaboratively to keep the situation under review and explore all options available to find ways of resuming the season when the conditions allow.

“We would all like to re-emphasise that our thoughts are with everyone affected by COVID-19.”

There has been no response from The National League; however, it is likely they will follow in suspending the league until the end of April.
