Van de Beek’s Agreement with Real Madrid
According to Spanish publication Marca, van de Beek agreed a deal with Los Blancos months ago, but the Spanish side failed to raise the required funds to make the transfer go through. They needed to sell James Rodriguez and Gareth Bale, however, with the failure to do so, they were not able to complete the deal. Marca also states that United could only be successful in their pursuit of the Ajax midfielder if Real renounce their agreement with the Dutchman.
Building a Winning Side
Manchester United and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are looking to rebuild a winning team, with the aim of challenging for the title in 2022. The Norwegian has already signed five players at United, all of whom should play a major part in their future, and all of whom have been very successful in their own right. Solskjaer will aim to continue this with United linked to many top talents, with van de Beek being one of them. While he is a class player, the question remains as to whether United need him.

In their most recent statement, Manchester United released that their financial circumstance is not particularly healthy. A required full upfront payment on the transfer of Harry Maguire has not helped the situation, and they will need to be careful with their money this summer. With that in mind, and the addition of Bruno Fernandes having filled their attacking midfield position, surely there are more pressing issues for the Red Devils, such as the right-wing. This would make the purchase of the Dutchman a luxury, rather than a necessity. While Manchester United will try to beat Real Madrid in pursuit of Donny van de Beek, it may not be the best idea considering their financial dilemma and other needs.
