REPORT: Arsenal Eye Diogo Jota Ahead of Summer Rebuild

Reports by the Daily Mail suggest that Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta has identified Wolves’ forward Diogo Jota as a top target for the summer transfer window.

Furthermore, this comes at a time where Arsenal are planning a massive summer rebuild. The Mikel Arteta era has been well upon us since the coming of the new year. It is time, now that COVID-19 has suspended UEFA competitions, that they figure out what they’re going to do in terms of transfers once the summer window rolls around.

And it is apparent that Arsenal could use depth and quality in the wide forward position. Diogo Jota could be that man.

Arsenal Eye Summer Move For Diogo Jota

The Gunners’ Forward Dilemma

Many of Arsenal’s stars might just be considering the exit door. After Arsenal’s exit in the Europa League by Olympiacos, many hopes of a good end to the season were squashed. Moreover, this is especially apparent considering their position in the league.

Players such as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette have been linked with moves away recently. In January, the former was linked with a shocking loan move to FC Barcelona, while Lacazette has been linked with moves to Atletico Madrid since his Lyon days, and those links continue to circulate.

If any of these players do leave, especially Arsenal’s talisman in Aubameyang, they will need to replace them fast. This is where the Wolves star comes in.

Diogo Jota’s 2019/20 Spark

This season has seen the true emergence of Portuguese forward Diogo Jota. He scored a hat-trick in consecutive Europa League matches against Besiktas and Espanyol and was influential in Wolves’ 1-1 draw at Olympiacos. His tally for the season is at 15, remarkable for the 23-year-old.

Manager Nuno Espírito Santo would obviously like to keep hold of his man. Wolves have been a revelation since returning to the Premier League, and the project looks to be on the up every time the Wanderers step onto the pitch.

However, this could change if a club like Arsenal come calling. The saying that their knock is different from any other club’s is definitely one to think about for any player. Take record signing Nicolas Pepe for example.

The Likelihood of Diogo Jota Signing for Arsenal

The Wolves winger won’t be as expensive as Pepe, but won’t be cheap either.

His market value is reported to be around £31.50m. Arsenal won’t have as much money as they did last season now that the Europa League dream is over and, if they don’t make Champions League due to their Premier League finish, the hundred-million dream may just also be over. That is if chairman, Stan Kroenke doesn’t shell out the cash, to the dismay of Arsenal fans around the world.

Diogo Jota must be flattered by the interest of a club as massive as Arsenal. If he were to sign, he’d fit in perfectly on the left-hand side. He would provide competition for up-and-coming sensation Gabriel Martinelli.

It’s definitely a move that could happen in the summer.
