Nottingham Forest Provide Coronavirus Update After Owner Contracts Illness

Owner Tests Positive

Forest majority owner Evangelos Marinakis shared a post on Instagram declaring that he was “visited” by Coronavirus yesterday.

Sharing a post in his native Greek, and an English translation, the Greek businessman spoke about the illness.

He said: “The recent virus has ‘visited’ me and I felt obliged to let the public know.

“I feel good as I take all the necessary measures and I discipline to the doctors’ instructions.

“I strongly advice [sic] all my fellow citizens to do the same. I wish all a quick recovery.”

Daniel Storey of the Independent first reported that Marinakis had met the Forest squad on Friday.

As a precautionary measure, the players and club officials had been tested for the virus late last night.

Forest hosted Millwall on Friday night at the City Ground – the London club have had a number of officials go into voluntary isolation.

Club Statement

A statement released by the club earlier today confirmed that no-one at the club has contracted the virus.

It said: “Nottingham Forest can confirm that all players, staff and officers have been tested for the coronavirus and all results have come back negative.

“Within hours of receiving the news that owner Evangelos Marinakis had tested positive for the virus, the club took swift action to arrange tests for the entire first-team players, staff and officers that came into contact with the owner last week.

“The club will remain in close dialogue with the relevant governing bodies and football authorities to ensure the correct measures are taken.”

Nottingham Forest are due to travel to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday as Sabri Lamouchi’s side look to keep up their promotion push.
