Rangers Scupper Chance To Close Gap On Celtic

Rangers failed to narrow the gap between them and Celtic after losing to Hamilton at Ibrox. Where did it go wrong for Steven Gerrard's side?

Rangers put in a mediocre performance as they fell to a 1-0 defeat against Hamilton at Ibrox. Meanwhile, a last gasp goal from Tom Rogic saw Celtic rescue a point in added time in the Scottish Premier League.

Rangers Scupper Chance To Close Gap On Celtic

A big night meant the top two SPFL sides were both competing in the dying matches of the competition. With not long to go, Celtic have a firm view of the title within their line of sight. A win would have sent them within touching distance.

Celtic were tripped up en route towards glory by a formidable high flying Livingston side as they drew 2-2 after a late equaliser from playmaker Rogic. After going in front due to a Callum McGregor goal, Celtic proceeded to concede two to Livingston. Neil Lennon’s defence failed to deal with danger man Lyndon Dykes after the Australian dominated Jullien in the box to create a goal for the Toni Macaroni side.

David Moyo was on target as Rangers fell to Hamilton Academical in what was a crucial chance for them to gain on their Old Firm rivals. A bad performance going forward is what cost Rangers, whilst Hamilton were not too consistent up top either. Full backs Borna Barisic and James Tavernier were not able to provide to Rangers’ attack with poor crosses.

Rangers sit 13 points behind Celtic on 64, with the Celts leading the way on 77 points. Things are looking bleak for Rangers unless Celtic continue their bumpy form and trip up to St. Mirren at home, which seems unlikely at this stage, and to Rangers themselves at Ibrox.

The next few SPFL matches will play a big part in deciding the fates of the clubs in the relegation zone, at the summit of the table, and the clubs scrapping for European places.
