Emile Smith-Rowe: A Star of the Future

Arsenal youngster Emile Smith-Rowe looks to be a star of the future. The 19-year-old joined Arsenal academy at the age of 10. The midfielder signed a new long-term professional contract with The Gunners in July 2018, believed to be a five-year deal.

Emile Smith-Rowe: A Star of the Future

Emile Smith-Rowe made a few appearances for the senior squad before being sent out on loan in January 2019 to RP Leipzig. The midfielder, however, had not fully recovered from a groin injury that he had sustained earlier in the season.

The youngster has also made six appearances for the England Under 19 & Under 20 squads combined, scoring two goals. Smith-Rowe returned from Leipzig but still could not break into the Gunners squad for the 2019/2020 season.

Huddersfield Town Loan

Mikel Arteta sent the young midfielder out on loan again. To gain more experience, and importantly first-team football. Championship side Huddersfield Town secured the signature of the Englishman for the second half of the 2019/2020 season.

The midfielder made a huge impact since arriving with the Terriers. The 19-year-old has made nine appearances, seven of which were first-team starts. Smith-Rowe has impressed in the vital number 10 role, where Huddersfield have been distinctly lacking.

Smith-Rowe has a bright future, he needs to be handled carefully and not over-played. Huddersfield Town have a gem on loan at the moment. The Terriers manager Danny Cowley has already indicated that he would love to have the midfielder for a whole season.

Yorkshire Live asked the Terriers manager before Charlton match what he feels is the best route for the 19-year-old beyond this season, Cowley didn’t hesitate.

With a big smile on his face he replied: “To come back to Huddersfield and play another season-long loan in 2020-21.”

The Terriers manager went on to add that the decision long term for Smith-Rowe lies with his parent club Arsenal, and they will respect whatever decision is made. Staying with the Terriers next season would be a fantastic option for the youngster to gain even more playing time.

Based on the few performances so far, Arsenal (and currently Huddersfield Town) have one hell of a player. The midfielder, still only 19, is impressing everyone who watches him. Smith-Rowe will be a regular first-team player for England.
