Former Cardiff City boss Neil Warnock has been flagged as a potential replacement for Paul Lambert at Ipswich Town.

Ipswich Town Line up Neil Warnock as Paul Lambert Pressure Continues

Poor Run of Form

Lambert has come under criticism in recent weeks following a run of five defeats in seven matches.

The poor form has seen the Blues slip from first to ninth in less than a month; they are now five points adrift of the play-offs.

Town take on in-form pair Fleetwood and Coventry City this week in two huge matches for their promotion aspirations.

The Tractor Boys started the season sublimely.

A run of eight wins from their 11 opening matches set the pace for what seemed a promotion campaign but, since a 1-0 victory over Fleetwood in October, they have picked up just 25 points from 23 games.

Lambert signed a new five-year deal on New Year’s Day but the Sunday Mirror (via the EADT) report that Warnock has been lined up if the Blues “fail to arrest their alarming slump in form”.

The report claims that there are a number of performance-related clauses in Lambert’s contract.

It should give owner Marcus Evans added freedom with a general cap on Lambert’s pay-off if the hierarchy believes a change is needed.

Previously Linked

71-year-old Warnock has previously commented on links with Ipswich as it was proposed just days before Lambert penned a new deal.

Speaking on talkSport, the eight-time promoted manager said: “If the right thing comes up I’m not really bothered what it is. I just want to enjoy myself until the end of the season.”

Previously when he had been linked to the role, former Arsenal icon Ray Parlour said: “I’ll ask you a question, Neil. Alan was a legend there and you’ve been linked to Ipswich Town, who are struggling at the moment…”

Warnock replied: “I get linked to everything. All managers do, don’t they? I think that’s how it is at the minute. There’s always talk and you just don’t know.

“Like I say, if the right thing comes up I’m not really bothered what it is. I just want to enjoy myself until the end of the season.”
