The Deal

Scunthorpe announced via their website they had signed the winger. Green arrives for an undisclosed fee from Southport, signing an 18-month contract at Glanford Park.

The 23-year-old has largely played his career in non-league. He did have a brief spell at Tranmere Rovers but struggled to make an impact. Green began his career at Burton Albion before joining Blackburn Rovers.

He failed to make the breakthrough and built his career in non-league playing for the likes of Hednesford Town and Stourbridge.

He had been at Southport since the summer of 2018 and has made 24 appearances, scoring ten goals.

Scunthorpe have lacked width and creativity. Certainly, Green provides those traits as he looks to prove himself in the Football League.

What Was Said

Speaking to the Scunthorpe website about his move, Green said: “I was told by the Southport manager that Scunthorpe were interested, and it all happened quickly.”

“It’s very good to be back in the EFL. Sometimes in your career, you have to take a dip down, and it’s all about character and bouncing back. There are many ups and downs in football, but I’m on the up now and back in the league.

“I just need to go out and do the business on the pitch. I’ve come here to commit myself to Scunthorpe, help the team and hopefully get a few goals.

“I’d like to think I’m quick, direct and exciting. I can play down the middle and out wide.

“This season has gone well. I’ve got a few goals under my belt, in great form at the minute and hopefully, I can bring it to the team and show the fans what I can do.

“I just want to continue gaining confidence, play well and hopefully get the team up the table.”
