The Deal

Reading announced via their website they had signed the midfielder. Araruna arrives for an undisclosed fee signing a deal until the summer of 2022.

The 23-year-old arrives as Mark Bowen’s first signing as Reading manager. He is a combative, creative midfielder who is aiming to make an impression in the English game.

The midfielder is a box to box type player and certainly, he is the sort of midfielder Reading has been looking for. The Royals are delighted to have the Brazilian on board seeing him as a real coup.

Araruna began his career with Sao Paulo and made his professional debut in 2017. He spent time out on loan at Fortaleza in early 2019 but his good performances prompted Sao Paulo to recall him.

The midfielder could make his debut this weekend when the Royals travel to Cardiff City tomorrow night.

What Was Said

Speaking to the Reading website about his new signing, Mark Bowen said “Felipe looks like a really bright, young talent who can play in two or three different positions…right-back, on the right side of midfield and as a defensive central midfielder.”

“He’s got those Brazilian qualities – the ball is his friend! I spoke with him when he arrived in the country this morning and he is a clever kid with a good personality and his English is very good, which should mean he settles well in England and fits in amongst the first-team group.”

Chief Executive Nigel Howe added “A player who comes with experience of top-flight football in Brazil arrives with good pedigree behind him. I am delighted Felipe is here and excited to see him play for the Royals.”
