Swift Return

The 23-year-old is making a swift return to Swindon, having being recalled by Rotherham for just two games.

Yates came on as a substitute in the League One sides 2-1 defeat away to Peterborough United; he failed to make the bench in their latest game in against Ipswich Town.

The forward endured an excellent first half of the season; he scored 13 times to help the Robins occupy top spot in League Two.

His goal tally was only beaten by Eoin Doyle, who has returned to Bradford City after being recalled from his loan spell with Swindon.

The return of Yates to Richie Wellens squad will help the clubs push for a return to League One.

Swindon are currently two points clear at the summit of League Two; just five points separate the top four teams.

Wellens’ will be hoping that they can bounce back from their 3-1 defeat to Colchester United; they face Exeter City in a top of the table clash this weekend.

What Was Said

Speaking to the official Swindon Town website on his return to the County Ground, Yates said: “I’m buzzing to be back. I want to help this club.

“I loved the first half of the season and, to be honest, just can’t wait for Saturday.”

Meanwhile, chairman Lee Power said: “I feel like this has been the final, missing piece of the jigsaw for us in the last week.

“We’re delighted at how clear Jerry made it that he wanted to be here, and how much he wanted to contribute to the second half of the season and the aim of promotion.”

The arrival of Yates is the sixth signing of the January transfer window for Swindon.
